Wavemakers ~ Women in Music is a movement setting new standards and creating connection
and opportunities for female musicians 40+.
Wavemakers started a much needed dialogue about the unique challenges and advantages in being a female creative in the music industry
in the 21st century.
Wavemakers is dedicated to normalizing
creativity and performance at any age.
Wavemakers ~ Women in Music 40+ will lead the way in changing the music industry.
With their own wisdom, lived experience and support from peers and allies, they will set the bar for excellence and pushback on industry norms that limit economic opportunities via discrimination and outmoded gatekeeping.
How will this happen?
Wavemakers is joining with musicians, venues and partners to create industry wide impact getting women 40+ booked for shows, paid equitably and resourced to launch, sustain and enjoy a music career.
We embarked on this mission in March 2023 with a panel of female artists and industry insiders at Antone's, Home of the Blues, to discuss the current landscape and learn about issues facing female musicians 40+. The panel capped off with an evening showcase of talented women sharing their music. Funds were raised for the music nonprofit, The Clifford Antone Foundation.
UP NEXT! is Wavemakers 2023 Music Showcase Series.
Wavemakers will partner with local venue(s) to host a monthly/bi-monthly residency with 3-5 alternating female musicians 40+.
In 2024 WWIM will host and expand our panel to include more industry perspectives and stakeholders who are focused on where the music industry is headed and how women can have the greatest impact. We will include national and regional artists, and innovators who can share their experience and advice to female musicians of all ages. 2024 will also include a partnership with The Austin Symphony and The Long Center for a performance by a female performer who exemplifies the excellence, longevity and awareness of women's potential in the music industry.
